PSP and QinetiQ North America to Bring New Sniper-Sensing Technology to Canadian Military and Law Enforcement
APR 1, 2008 - 06:00 ET
KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 1, 2008) - Pacific Safety Products Inc. (PSP) (TSX VENTURE:PSP), a leader in the field of protective body armor and soldier systems equipment and QinetiQ North America, a global developer of innovative technology solutions for National Defense announced today that they have entered into an exclusive agreement for the Canadian territory to market QinetiQ North America's line of gunshot localization systems, known as Ears. The systems will provide a groundbreaking sniper detection capability to Canadian military and law enforcement personnel, who face growing threats from snipers and combatants both domestic and abroad, but must operate under strict rules of engagement for returning fire.
The Ears systems currently deployed with U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq are the smallest and lightest sniper detection systems in the world. Weighing only 12 ounces and with a battery life of 13 hours, the man-mounted Ears sensor is able to detect and provide the direction and range to a sniper within 400 milliseconds. Ears is also available in a vehicle-mount version, which can be installed in less than 10 minutes. PSP has teamed exclusively with QinetiQ North America, the architect of Ears technology and other novel technology solutions, to integrate this technology into PSP armor and soldier system products.
"We continue to develop and deliver the most advanced soldier equipment in the world," stated David Scott, CEO of Pacific Safety Products Inc. "Threats against our military and law enforcement officers are evolving and these exclusive agreements provide us with product lines that meet those threats and should open up new channels for growth as part of our strategy to incorporate unique technologies into soldier equipment."
"Ears is proven to help protect military and law enforcement by pinpointing the source of sniper fire," said Don Steinman, director of transition programs for QinetiQ North America. "We're pleased to team with Pacific Safety Products to bring Ears to Canadian forces and law enforcement personnel."
PSP will be displaying its body armor, helmet systems and electronic products along with the Ears systems at the 2008 CANSEC Exhibition, April 9-10 at the Ottawa Convention Center in Ontario, Canada. Attendees are invited to visit Pacific Safety Products booth #806 to view solutions and speak with company executives.
About the EarsTM Sniper Detection System
QinetiQ North America developed the Ears miniature sniper detection system to allow military personnel to immediately and accurately respond to hostile fire. The Ears low-profile acoustic sensor, coupled with operator interfaces for individual warfighters, vehicles and fixed locations, audibly cues U.S. forces with direction and distance in just a fraction of a second from the first gunshot, without being confused by surrounding sounds. The palm-sized, 6.4-ounce sensor needs only one gunshot to accurately locate snipers in a 360-degree view, even when in use on a vehicle moving at speeds over 50 mph.
